The Pillow Top Footstool is an adapted form of Staked furniture design inspired by a unique chair originating in Wales: the Welsh stick chair.

Staked furniture is constructed with round tenons that fit into mortises hand drilled through the seat, then wedged from the top down into the leg to create a form fitting mechanical joint that tightens over time. These works are created largely with hand tools and though appearance suggests simplicity, an attentive and exacting approach is required to achieve harmonious balance in the execution and design.

Ebonizing is a natural process of turning the wood black with a chemical reaction to the natural tannins found in the wood.
